Elementary Yoga - Why not!

I have worked with children my whole life. I have coached basketball, taught Fitness University camps, and taught many Sunday school lessons and vacation bible schools.... Those do not compare to my field observation I am currently in. I student teach next semester in an elementary and a high school.... Physical Education. 50+ students at a time in a classroom - wowzer! Today was ground breaking for me. For the first time, in a long time, those students challenged me.

In the second grade physical education class, I taught YOGA.

Yes, I said it correct: Yoga. At the beginning of my lesson, I was more nervous about the students reactions, I did not worry about the details of the lesson. But, I worried for NOTHING. The students loved it. They were allowed to take off their shoes, some should have kept them on, and relax. The students learned different poses, breathing patterns, and stillness, the students were true "warriors." At the end of the lesson, the students asked when we would learn more poses.

This was an important lesson to me personally because I want each student to be physically active and some people do not like sports, hard to believe. I explained Yoga, dance, and gymnastics are great ways to keep them active. Welp, looks like Yoga was a hit and my cooperative teacher is already adding another Yoga lesson to the calendar.
